Ground beef simmered in a sweet-tangy ketchup and tomato paste sauce, piled on buttered toasted hamburger buns. Straight out of a 90s weeknight dinner. Adapted from Spend With Pennies.

    Cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic powder in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat, breaking up the meat, until no pink remains. Drain off excess fat.

    Add the bell pepper, water, tomato sauce, ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire, mustard, salt, and pepper. Stir and bring to a boil.

    Reduce heat and simmer uncovered about 15 minutes, until thickened and scoopable.

    Meanwhile, butter the cut sides of the buns and toast them under the broiler or in a dry skillet 2 to 3 minutes until lightly browned.

    Spoon about a half cup of the meat mixture onto each bun and serve.
